The Spirit presents itself to many as an enigma. Its existence is mysterious and complex, generating misunderstandings and unawareness of its true purpose. The Spirit’s ambiguous nature opens the opportunity for study to unearth the exciting truths that it holds.

The Spirit is present in our world in various forms. This year’s lectures will examine the Spirit as experienced in light, wind, breath, and vibration to help us uncover some of its aspects that invite us to work for climate justice, racial justice, and gender justice. The Holy Spirit has always been a mover and shaker of ideas and action. The Spirit’s presence moves, stirs, and changes us to become aware of the social ills in our world.

The different ways in which we reimagine the Holy Spirit can challenge some traditional assumptions in Christianity and provide a liberative vision that allows us to work for social justice.

Join us as we examine the work of the Holy Spirit as it stirs us to work toward new kinships with God that are sustainable, just, and whole.

Keynote Speaker

Grace Ji-Sun Kim received her M.Div. from Knox College (University of Toronto) and her Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. She is an Associate Professor of Theology at Earlham School of Religion. She has been working on peace and reconciliation through her writing, research and activism, and has met with the Korean Ambassador in NYC, US Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley and many religious leaders and activists in the US to help work for peace in the Korean Peninsula.

Kim is the author or editor of 21 books most recently Keeping Hope Alive, Reimagining Spirit, Intersectional Theology, Mother Daughter Speak co-written with Elisabeth Sophia Lee, and Embracing The Other. Kim has written for TIME, The Feminist Wire, Feminism and Religion, The Forum for Theological Education, and The Nation. Kim also writes for The Huffington Post, Sojourners, The Christian Century, Faith and Leadership, and Feminist Studies in Religion (co-editor).

Grace Ji-Sun Kim is an ordained minister of word and sacrament within the PC (USA) denomination. She is a much sought after lecturer and has spoken throughout the United States and in Malaysia, Korea, Myanmar, Spain, Qatar, Brazil, Switzerland, Peru, England, South Africa, Paris, Budapest, Australia and Canada. Kim is honored to be included in the Englewood Review of Book‘s list of “Ten Important Women Theologians That You Should Be Reading” and to be included in their list of books to read under “Our God is Too White? Diversifying our Theology”. Englewood Review of Books listed Reimagining Spirit as one of the Best Theology Books of 2019 and Intersectional Theology co-written with Susan Shaw as one of the Best Theology Books of 2018! Healing Our Broken Humanity, co-written with Graham Hill was included in their list of Best Books of 2018. She is also one of the “Top 10 Writers Shaping Our Movement” put together by the Center for Progressive Renewal.
