Ash Wednesday, grace, Lent, subscribe, substack

Below is a post from my substack. Please subscribe and follow my work there. Thank you.

Ash Wednesday is a holy day in the church calendar where many Christians around the world will fast and pray. It also marks the first day of Lent. Lent is the six and a half weeks before Easter which is a 40-day period for fasting and abstinence (Sundays are excluded). The 40 days is in imitation of Jesus Christ’s fasting in the wilderness. Christians around the world practice some sort of fasting during the season of Lent.

For Ash Wednesday, I would like to repost a piece I wrote for Huffington Post called, Lent: Living God’s Grace. I hope that on Ash Wednesday and every day, we can experience God’s grace and share that grace with others.

I am reposting Dr. Bob Cornwall Post which was originally post on his website, Ponderings of a Faith Journey.  Please read and share.

Deuteronomy 26:1-11

Lent is a season of reflection that begins on Ash Wednesday with words of confession, marked by ashes, and accompanied by a word of forgiveness. The journey continues with a word about how the Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness where he fasted and prayed and was tested for forty days (Luke 4:1-12). These forty days of Lent mirror the forty years that Israel wandered in the wilderness having their faith tested.
