Grace Ji-Sun Kim to deliver Williams Institute Lectures

The Williams Institute at Methodist Theological School in Ohio welcomes Earlham School of Religion faculty member Grace Ji-Sun Kim for two lectures, at 7 p.m. March 20 and 1 p.m. 21. Her theme is “Embracing the Other.” Both lectures are in the Alford Centrum on the MTSO campus, 3081 Columbus Pike in Delaware, Ohio. They are free and open to the public. No registration is required.

An ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Kim also will preach at MTSO’s weekly chapel service in the Alford Centrum at 1 p.m. March 20. All are invited.

Kim, who serves as associate professor of theology at Earlham, is noted for her work in the fields of feminist, post-colonial and Asian-American theology. She is the author or editor of more than a dozen books, most recently Mother Daughter Speak and Embracing the Other.

Kim’s writing is featured in websites including the Huffington Post, Sojourners and EthicsDaily. The Englewood Review of Books includes her in its list “Ten Important Women Theologians That You Should Be Reading.”

She earned a a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto, a Master of Divinity degree from Knox College and a bachelor’s degree from Victoria University.

MTSO’s Williams Institute was begun in 1981 to honor the late Dr. Ronald L. Williams, professor of theology from 1971 until his death in 1981. The institute has featured speakers from many backgrounds, including theologians, ethicists, poets, biblical scholars, historians, pastoral psychologists and Christian educators.

Methodist Theological School in Ohio provides theological education and leadership in pursuit of a just and sustainable world. In addition to the Master of Divinity degree, the school offers master’s degrees in counseling, theological studies and practical theology, along with a Doctor of Ministry degree.
