Back in 1870 when this holiday was established, this day was named “MOTHER’S DAY for PEACE”..

Mrs. Julia Ward Howe—Abolitionist—Feminist—Suffragist—Poet—wanted to make a statement about making peace possible in the world forevermore…
A dedicated abolitionist who wrote the lyrics for the “BATTLE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC”—whose lyrics expressed her strong opposition to slavery as well as her unwavering support for the Union—Mrs. Howe had equally strong feelings about achieving and maintaining a peaceful world…And, she believed that ALL MOTHERS regardless of race, color or creed had a crucial role in meeting that goal…

Is peace possible today in Baltimore and Ferguson and New York and Chicago and the world over were uprisings are breaking out with fulsome fervor?

What is today like for the Mothers of Trayvon Martin—Tamir Rice—Freddie Gray—Eric Garner—Michael Bell—Rekia Boyd—Thong Kien Ma—Erick Emmanuel Salas Sanchez—Billy Joe Patrick—Karen Jenks—Kimber Key—Ernesto Flores—Walter Scott? The list is too long and grows nearly everyday…
What can soothe their pain? How can we really, truly honor Mothers?
