As a mom, I really cannot keep up with my kids. Especially when it comes to the latest games or things on the computer. My youngest has been bothering me all summer long about Minecraft. I have no idea what he is talking about and I still don’t. Oftentimes, I have ignored his request about Minecraft. Summer has gone and school has begun. Due to my lack of interest to his pleas about getting him a Minecraft account, he wrote this letter with all the pictures in it. Our entire family got a kick out of reading his letter. This is his letter.

Minecraft is my favorite thing to do and watch.
There is so much to do in Minecraft. It is really addicting because you get to build things and you can do survival with friends. You can install mods and texture packs. I think that a lot of people like it because loads and loads of people post videos of them playing and doing other things.
But probably the most annoying part of the game is a monster that is called a creeper. Basically when you hit it once it blows up and eventually you die.
Minecraft is always available as you can get it on your ipod or ipad, Xbox, and computer.
When I watch minecraft I always watch “The Yogscast”.
I think they should make the minecraft full version a little bit cheaper so I can get it. My friends in my new class all know about it and we always talk about it for some reason.
Everyone in my family disagrees with me and does not want me to play or watch it. To me I think people, especially my family do not realize that you are kind of doing work as you are playing this game.
But anyways, all I’m trying to say is that People should buy me a stinkin minecraft account.

Hi Josh,
I don’t know what minecraft is either; but, I do know that if you work hard enough for something you will get your heart’s desire eventually. I love your blog!
Wendy
thanks Wendy. He just loves Minecraft. I don’t get it. He is still asking for an account…….
I see a future Doctoral thesis on the virtues of Minecraft and the evil of People that don’t buy kids a stinkin minecraft account!
You are too funny John! Perhaps you can write a song about this…….:) Merry Christmas to you.

Minecraft is indeed a very fun and addictive game. It’s not overly expensive; less than $30 for the pc version; and you don’t have to pay to play it. I would even classify it as an educational game. Beginning players can enjoy the fun of playing with virtual “LEGO”s to build amazing houses, traps, even giant statues of their favorite game characters, cars, and more… the only limits are their own imagination and creativity.
Once players advance further in the game, they can start making redstone powered traps and contraptions which, similar to an erector set, require them to learn a little bit about engineering and using “wiring” with comparators, signal repeaters, pistons and more… all without littering the floor of their room (or the living room) with tiny pieces that hurt like the dickens when you step on them barefoot.
Monsters, such as the “creeper” that Joshua mentioned, help to give the game a sense of urgency (you have to build or find shelter before they come get you at night). Hunting them, once properly outfitted, yields valuable resources that players can craft into useful (or destructive) objects such as bone meal to grow crops and trees, sticky pistons to use in engineering marvels, or TNT to blow up more monsters or even fellow players to grab their loot.
I realize that it’s been over a year and a half since this post, and I hope Joshua has been given the opportunity to play this fun and unique game. Thank you for sharing your stories with us!
