I attended an ATS CORE Consultation in Pittsburgh, PA, Oct 12-14, 2012. The Consultation was entitled, Preparing for 2040: Enhancing Capacity to Educate and Minister in a Multiracial World. The meeting had plenary sessions, breakout groups, work sessions etc., which dealt with issues of race and ethnicity. Some of the key note speakers were Drs. Michael Emerson, Juan Martinez, Willie Jennings, and Dan Alshire. It was a good opportunity to learn how society is becoming more multiracial and how our seminaries and churches have to be ready for this change.
One interesting book which was introduced and discussed at the meeting was Churches, Cultures and Leadership written by Drs. Juan Martinez & Mark Lau Branson. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in how culture is shaping our churches and ministry.
